Black Horse Brewery & Restaurant

Picture-perfect country setting, service friendly and brilliant beer

With the mushrooming micro brewery phenomenon it is always good news to learn about a new entrant into this market. The Black Horse brewery is situated on a farm outside the Magaliesburg town and has a restaurant and guest house Valley View.

As wine is my first drink of choice having sampled the results of this new venture at the Cellar Rats Wine Festival on 2 September and was pleasantly surprised I know that it won’t be long before I take a drive out to down a pint or two to accompany a decent steak or pizza.  Breakfast is also an option and is served until 11am.

As reported in the Saturday Star property owner Bernard Botha who had a love of beer became passionate about his hobby. Nuschka, Bernard’s 21 year old daughter completed her training at Sedibeng brewery (a joint venture between Brandhouse and Heineken) under a Dutch brew master and their hotelier friends Mariet and Zhan Steyn. The Black Horse Brewery & Restaurant thereafter opened its doors in March 2012.

We are told that the sprawling venue offers relaxed seating inside, in the pub with a view of the brewery, or in one of the private areas. There are also patio seats, either at tables or beside benches, or under a giant pecan trees in the garden. At four in the afternoon the property’s magnificent black Frisian stallions are walked to their stables which are attached to the restaurant.

Georgina Crouth (G’s Spot) from the Saturday Star has billed the venue as a “picture-perfect country setting, service friendly and the beer brilliant”.
I know that the beer is worth the drive - I can’t wait to get there!
