Jatinga Country Lodge - White River

Poetry in the word Jatinga

Jatinga Country Lodge is located in White River and falls within close proximity to the Bagdad Shopping Centre, Casterbridge Farm and an hour or two from Hazyview, Sabie and Dullstroom. Jatinga is a five star retreat and welcomes bookings for their restaurant and outdoor patio.  It is well worth taking a drive to Jatinga not far out of White River, close enough to the Casterbridge Shopping Centre to combine both in a days outing from Nelspruit or en route to Sabie or Kruger.  Even better book a weekend get-away especially if you appreciate good food in tranquil country surroundings.

Their menu reads: “There is poetry in the word Jatinga – the pathway of rain and water”

My visit to Jatinga was one of the highlights of my trip to the White River area.  We booked for a midweek lunch.  The alfresco lunch was served to perfection with excellent service.  The food was delicious and not too pricy.  Two lunches (a wonderful linguine), cappuccino and a bottle of white wine R229-00 – not bad! Lush, green foliage and surroundings of well established acacia trees and various shrubs, date trees and palms in different shades of green set the tranquil outdoor scene. The Jatinga Country Lodge is nestled in over 30 hectares of magnificent gardens. Engage is some theatre of the mind and picture your table, set up under a magnificent flowering Pride of India tree that is also home to a family of Olive Sunbirds …… scrumptious cuisine and professional, personal service will ensure that your meal is a memorable one.

The culinary team at the Lodge have put together a varied and tempting a la carte menu that includes choices like a starter of Sesame Coated Prawns accompanied by a Thai mango Salsa, a main course of Venison Wellington topped with a biltong farce and, for dessert, home made Jatinga ice cream in a variety of flavours from decadent Chocolate to delicately flavoured Lavender …… with the lavender coming straight from their gardens!

Lodge Features

The Jatinga Country Lodge is situated on the outskirts of the picturesque town of White River, Mpumalanga, which is 38 km from the game rich Kruger National Park and the private reserves of the Sabi Sands.  It is a mere 4 km from the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport KMIA.
This 5 star country retreat is also within easy driving distance to the many scenic attractions of the Panorama route like the Blyde River Canyon, God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes and the historical mining town of Pilgrim's Rest.

They have 16 Superior rooms and four Luxury suites (one being the romantic Honeymoon suite) at the Lodge all of which have been tastefully furnished in different styles - Colonial, Victorian, Provencal, French Country, African Colonial and English Country as well as their recently completed Orchard and Forest rooms – and offer guests luxurious comfort and secluded privacy. Their six new Orchard and Forest rooms form a little village and, as their names suggest, some have a view over our citrus orchard while the others look into our pine forest.

While different rooms offer guests different experiences, like outdoor showers, open fire places or ½ ton concrete baths, each offers the same standard of luxurious comfort and space. Private patios are part of the experience with the Luxury suites offering one the added luxury of a separate lounge. No matter which room you find yourself in at Jatinga, you will find.......
A well stocked mini bar and snack basket (ice is delivered to your room each afternoon in time for sundowners). Tea & Coffee making facilities with fresh home baked biscuits. At Jatinga breakfast is the first most important meal of the day! Whatever your preference may be, yogurt and muesli or Eggs Florentine, you’ll find it on our breakfast menu. Lunch can be enjoyed al fresco at any one of our outdoor dining spots with the many different birds that call Jatinga home as your lunch time companions. Dinners are an occasion at the Lodge, preferably an occasion that begins with a pre dinner drink in the Lord Milner, followed, if you choose, by a visit to our wine cellar to select a bottle of hand-picked estate wine. Then it’s onto the business at hand, ordering your evening meal.
The restaurant is a quietly elegant room with uninterrupted views over the gardens which themselves offer secluded – and often romantic – outdoor al fresco dining options. Traditional High Teas, served on request, will transport you back into times gone by while one of our Gourmet Picnic Hampers will give a whole new meaning to your understanding of a picnic!
Jatinga – a truly memorable experience!
